Japanese Setoda Heart Lemon®
Setoda Town in Hiroshima Prefecture is said to be the birthplace of lemon cultivation, and is Japan’s number one producer of lemons. The Setoda lemons grown in this town are known as Eco Lemon®, which uses 50% less pesticides and chemical fertilizers than conventional lemon. One of the main Eco Lemon® is Heart Lemon®, which is gaining media attention by its cute pattern. By growing lemon fruits in heart-shaped molds when they are small and soft, cute-shaped lemons are born. However as it takes time and effort to produce, it is a rare lemon that is rarely sold online or even in Hiroshima, Japan.
Due to its environmentally friendly agriculture which does not use any fungicides, preservatives, or waxes even after harvesting, you can safely eat the whole fruit, including the pulp and skin. It comes in a special bag called “P Plus” that is used to preserve vegetables and fruits in a fresh state, so it can be stored for a certain amount of time (3 to 4 weeks), but it is recommended to use it up while it is still fresh after opening. The expiration date is approximately 2 days after opening.
