Japanese Tsuruoka Tsuruhime Red Melon (Large)

Located in Tsuruoka City, Shonai region of Yamagata, the “Shonai Sand Dunes” is one of Japan’s three major sand dunes, with the Mogami River flowing into the Sea of Japan across the mouth of the river. The Shonai dunes have a large temperature difference between day and night, and it is very well drained as it approaches the harvest season which the melons does not require much watering, and draining it at this time condenses the sweetness. It is easy to adjust the amount of water given to the melons that way, hence the environment is very suitable for melon cultivation.

With Tsuruoka’s climate and cultivation techniques, aromatic melons with a melting texture, refreshing overflowing juices and rich sweetness are created. It is Shonai’s prized fruits, which is popular as a gift during the summer harvest.
