Japanese Steuben Grapes
Steuben was cultivated by crossing “Wain” & “Shrindan” variety founded in New York and was introduced in Japan in 1952 (Showa 27).
This grape is mostly only suitable for cultivation in cold climates, which is why they are mainly grown in the Tohoku region, including Aomori prefecture, which is at the same latitude as New York.
It is available during the season from October to February and has excellent storability. It has similar characteristics to Delaware (champagne) grapes, for its sweet gummy-like fragrance and slip-skin.
