Sato Nishiki is the most well-sought cherry variety during its season due to its pretty appearance and good balance of sweetness. It is first discovered in Yamagata, Year 1923, after cross-breeding “Napoleon” and “Yellow Jade” varieties and later grew in popularity over the years, calling for widespread production in Japan. It has a high sugar content as high as 17-18 brix and smooth juicy texture.
Sakuranbo season is available from May to July, and is one of the most-sought choice as gifts in Japan.
