A rare cross between Golden Delicious and Star King, Princess Haruka apples are the highest-grade Haruka apples grown in Tendo City, Yamagata. They are produced in very small quantities and are prized for their naturally low acidity, rich nectar and strong sweetness, which is uncommon for yellow apples. Only fruits that meet strict requirements for appearance, sugar level and honey content can earn this special label. Each apple must reach at least 16 percent sugar content and a honey index of 2.5 or higher before it is approved for shipment.

Tendo City provides an ideal climate for cultivating premium fruit, with clean water, fertile soil and mild year-round temperatures. It is also one of Japan’s leading fruit regions, known for La France pears, cherries and grapes. In this environment, each Haruka apple is individually bagged on the tree to achieve its smooth bright yellow skin and concentrated sweetness.
