Japanese Niitaka Nashi Pear (Medium-Plus)
“Niitakanashi” is the third largest variety of pears produced in Japan, after Hosui and Kosui. It is one of the largest pears in the world, and is characterized by its low acidity, sweetness and mellow aroma. Niitakanashi was born about 80 years ago by Mr. Akio Kikuchi, by crossbreeding Akio Imamura from Kochi and Amanokawa pear from Niigata. This resulted in a large variety averaging more than 500g, with largest weighing up to 1kg. Due to that, it is a popular variety as a gift for its attractive size.
The flesh is white, juicy and crisp in texture, with a high sugar content of 13 degrees and above, making it a very sweet pear. Niitaka pears have a very long shelf life, and can be stored in the refrigerator for about a month if wrapped tightly in plastic wrap.
