Matsutake, known as 松茸 (Song Rong), is a highly sought mycorrhizal mushroom that grows in Asia, Europe, and North America. It is prized and popular for its distinct spicy-aromatic odor which was being taken as it stimulates appetite by the Japanese. Matsutake mushrooms, which are worthy of being the king of mushrooms, grow only at the roots of Japanese Akamatsu red pine trees, therefore hard to breed artificially. It resulted in the scarcity which priced these mushrooms at a relatively high range.
