Born from a dream to harvest mangoes at Christmas, Hakugin no Taiyo (白銀の太陽, “Silver Sun”) is the result of ingenuity and nature working together. CEO Mr. Nakagawa once thought growing mangoes in Tokachi, Hokkaido, far from the tropics, was impossible. Through innovative greenhouse techniques that reverse the seasons, he made the impossible possible. In November 2011, Tokachi’s first mango tree blossomed, giving life to Hakugin no Taiyo, referring to the bright red mangoes that shine beautifully against the snowy landscape.

Tokachi’s low humidity and minimal winter pests allow these mangoes to mature naturally without pesticides. Blooming in August, they ripen safely in greenhouses, taking full advantage of Hokkaido’s long hours of sunshine, hot spring water, and even snow to create rare mid-winter mangoes — the only mangoes in Japan shipped in winter. Growing on the tree 2 months longer than tropical miyazaki mangoes gives them a soft, melt-in-your-mouth texture with almost no fiber.

Hakugin no Taiyo is carefully graded for sweetness. Mangoes with 11 to 14.9° Brix are sold as Hakugin no Taiyo, while the richest, 15° Brix or higher, are Hakugin no Taiyo Premium. Each bite is a luxurious taste of Tokachi’s winter sunshine, handcrafted care, and natural flavor.
