Japanese Ettou Mikan (Mandarin Orange)

The Soho district of Nio, Mitoyo City, which faces the Seto Inland Sea, is blessed with a warm Setouchi-style climate with long daylight hours and little rain, and is a region where mandarin oranges have been cultivated for over 100 years. Among them, 越冬 (Ettou), translated as “Overwinter” oranges are the highest quality oranges that are usually harvested from November to February.

It is usually grown by leaving the Satsuma mandarin on a tree and putting it in a bag to protect it from the cold and pests, only to be harvested toward the end of the year after it has fully ripened. This causes the sugar content in the fruit to rise and become sweeter. It is a gem that you can enjoy the finest sweetness with a sugar content of 13 degrees or more.
