Originating in Asia (mostly Japan) 3000 years ago, Nashi aka Nijisseiki (2oth Century) were once considered a delicacy for the wealthy. Nashi were originally brought to Australia by Chinese gold miners in the 1850s, but have only been grown commercially locally for about 30 years.
They are round in shape which is similar to an apple with pale green/yellow skin. Their flesh is white, crisp and very juicy. Season is available from March to November.
