Japanese Yamagata Beniou Sakuranbo (Cherry, 100g punnet)
$25.00–$48.00
Experience one of Japan’s finest cherries — the Yamagata Benio, a stunning new variety developed over 20 years by the Yamagata Prefectural Agricultural Research Center and officially registered in 2020. Grown in Japan’s top cherry-producing region Yamagata, this variety is quickly gaining fame for its exceptionally large size, vivid red hue, and remarkable sweetness. Most cherries are 3L to 4L in size (approx. 28–34mm), with top grades even reaching the coveted 5L size (34mm+), making them among the largest cherries in the world.
Each cherry boasts a sugar content of over 20 Brix, comparable to the luxurious Sato Nishiki, but with less acidity and a more refined, lingering sweetness. The firm, glossy flesh offers excellent shelf life and a satisfying bite. To be certified as “Yamagata Benio,” only cherries sized 2L (25mm) and above, with a minimum of 50% red coloring, can bear the official trademark — ensuring only the finest make it to market.
Harvested between late June and early July, this short-season gem is a rare indulgence. With its beautiful appearance, vibrant gloss, and carefully cultivated size, the Yamagata Benio is not just a cherry — it’s a testament to craftsmanship, flavor, and prestige.
