Kotohime was bred by Kayito Omura of Top Berry in Nara Prefecture, and registered as a new variety in 2021. It was selectively bred using the large-grained “Tamahime” and “Kotoka” as its parents, which ranks high among the many strawberry varieties as a rich flavor strawberry.
Kotohime firmly inherits the rich sweetness of Kotouka but doesn’t have the distinct acidity of Kotoka, so the sweetness is even more pronounced. It also inherits Tamahime’s large grains that weigh an average of 30g and firm-natured, which makes it more lasting.

Japanese Okinawa Passionfruit Gift Box (1kg)
$68.00Add to cartJapanese Okinawa Passionfruit Gift Box (1kg)
$68.00
Passion fruit is a vine tropical fruit tree native to South America and is a fruit of the Passion flower family. It was introduced in Japan in the middle of the Meiji era. Passionfruit has a sweet yet sour taste and a refreshing aroma, typical of southern Japan. The main production areas in the prefecture include the southern part of the main island, Onna village and Ishigaki island.
This fruit loses its acidity as it matures and is ready to eat when wrinkles appear on its skin (10 days approx at ambient temperature*). By ripening, the acidity is removed and the sweetness increases. You may enjoy it as a fruit, drink, ice cream, in salad or even baths! You can also enjoy a sherbet-like texture if put into the fridge. This is a fruit recommended for those who care about beauty and health, With a sweet taste but low calorie count as well as being rich in vitamins and minerals.
*For ripening, leave it in a room at 20 to 25 ° C where it is not exposed to direct sunlight or air conditioning for 3 to 7 days. When wrinkles appear on the surface, it is ready to eat, and the more wrinkles there are, the stronger the sweetness. Note: If left at room temperature for a long period of time, mold may develop, so ripen while checking the condition every day.
